William Connie "Bill" Gibson, 76, of Maben was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at his residence following a sudden illness. Born November 20, 1934 at Huff Creek, he was the son of the late Albert B. and Mary Bruney Gibson. Bill was a former coal miner, a former saw mill employee with 23 years of service, and retired from Mullens Grocery with 11 years of service. He was a member of the Herndon Freewill Baptist Church, where he often played his guitar and sang for services. In his leisure he loved to play music, hunt, fish, and spend time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 39 years, Ethel Shrewsbury Gibson; two daughters, Mary Kincaid of Williamstown and Connie Martin of Beckley; three sons, Dwight Shrewsbury of North Carolina, Timothy Shrewsbury of Fairdale, and Hank J. Gibson and his fiancée, Tammy, of Weston; two sisters, Minnie McNeely of Boone Co. and Faye Green of Gary; five grandchildren, Michelle, Austin, Bryan, Emily, and Layla; and a host of family, friends, and his church family. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Herndon Freewill Baptist Church, Herndon with Rev. William O. Tolliver and Rev. Rick Massie officiating. Burial will follow in the John Riley Shrewsbury Cemetery at Herndon. Friends may call one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Men of the Herndon Freewill Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
