William L. Compton

April 15, 1951 - September 11, 2012

William "Bill" Lloyd Compton, 61, of Alpoca passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012 with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born in Mullens, WV on April 15, 1951, he was the youngest son to the late Rudolph and Geraldine DeHart Compton. Bill graduated from Mullens High School in 1969. He worked at Itmann Coal Company as a tipple mechanic for many years. He retired as a truck driver from Joy Mining and Machinery of Pineville, WV. He loved spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his four-wheeler and gardening. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Danita; his three daughters, Ginger Michael and husband, Billy, of Mullens, Tanya Dunn and husband, Larry, of Mullens, and Billie Riddle and husband, John, of Bluefield; a step-daughter, Kayla Daniels at the home; six grandchildren, Halie Michael, Madison Dunn, Zachary Riddle, Luke Dunn, Isabella Riddle, and Levi Michael; two brothers, Wallace Compton and wife, Ann, of Lady Lake, Florida and Wayne Compton and wife, Brenda, of Mullens; and several nieces and nephews. Bill's life will be remembered on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 7pm at the Tankersley Funeral Home in Mullens, WV. Visitation will be from 6pm to 7pm before the service.
