Silas Lane, 84, of Bud, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on February 13, 2012 after a long illness. He was born May 15, 1927, in Bud, W.Va. to the late Ray and Frances Stanley Lane. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Homer Lane, May Lane O'Neal, Virgie Lane Bishop, and Harvey Lane; and son-in-law, Jim Sizemore. Silas was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany at the end of World War II, and a retired coal miner. He was married to his beloved wife, Ruth, for 63 years. Silas was a faithful member of the New Zion Old Regular Baptist Church where he loved attending services as well as Association meetings. He was an avid gardener and collector of pocket watches and antique clocks. Silas was a gentle, humble servant of God who was dedicated to his wife, family, church, and community. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. In addition to his wife, those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Gladys Lilly, of Alpoca, W.Va.; his children, Danny Lane and wife, Frances, of Bud, W.Va., Karen Sizemore and fiancé Jim Cashwell, of Charlotte, NC, Cathy Jones and husband, Doug, of Beckley, W.Va., and Teresa Lane of Bud, W.Va.; his grandchildren, Mark Sizemore and wife, Jan, of Fort Mill, SC, Amy Hicks and husband, Thad, of Charlotte, NC, Stephen Sizemore and wife, Melinda, of Fort Mill, SC, Ray Lane of Bud, W.Va., Suzanne Godsey and husband Junior of Alpoca, W.Va., Anna Colbird and husband, Darold, of Alpoca, W.Va., Jonathon Ashley and fiancé, Caren Lohr, of Raleigh, NC, Joseph Ashley of Beckley, W.Va., Jackson Ashley of Beckley, W.Va., and Dust'n Jones of Beckley, W.Va. He also was the great-grandfather to eleven adoring great-grandchildren and a treasured uncle to many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Bud-Alpoca Methodist/Old Regular Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hickory Ridge Cemetery, Bud Mtn. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
