Sheridan Lee Greene Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Sheridan Lee Greene, 73, rejoined his loved ones in Heaven on Tuesday May the 31st of 2022. He was preceded in death by his father, Willis Sheridan Greene. Mother, Marie Lettie Greene (Whitt), and his big brother Jim Greene. Sheridan is survived by his sister, Donna Lilly. He also leaves behind his loving wife of over 52 years, Brigitta (Gitti) Greene. In addition to his wife and sister, he is survived by two children who he loved dearly. Lee Greene and fiance Sheila, and Nikki Culpepper and her husband, Jamie. Along with eight beloved grandchildren; Justin Greene, Krista Greene, Sheridan (Jamie) Greene, Allie Culpepper, Kadi Whitaker, Pruitt Culpepper, Wilson Culpepper, April Williamson, and Landon Culpepper. He was also blessed with many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Sheridan was born and raised in Mullens, the youngest of 3 siblings. He spent his youth playing in the mountains and hunting crawdads in the Guyandotte river. He attended Mullens High School where he earned his High School diploma in 1966. After which, he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served in Guam during the Vietnam War. This time helped define Sheridan for the rest of his life, his love of country and community were unsurpassed. Later in his service, he was stationed in South Dakota at Ellsworth AFB where one night at a party, he met the love of his life, Gitti. Soon after they moved to Leesburg, Virginia where they married and had their son, Lee. After their time in Leesburg and with the completion of his Air Force service, Sheridan brought his wife and son back to settle in his hometown of Mullens and a few years later their family grew again with the birth of a daughter, Nikki. During these years Sheridan worked in the coal mines to help support his young family, Sheridan was a loving father who raised his children to be respectful and kind to anyone they met. He'd make you laugh and joke around with you, but if you got out of line, he could have his belt off in two seconds flat, with one hand. Most of the time it was jokes and laughter, but when it was time to straighten up and be serious, you'd better listen. And you'd better be home when those streetlights came on and he whistled for you. When his daughter came home from college, he would make her favorite foods to welcome her home, no matter what the hour, he made sure home always felt like home. When his children needed advice, Sheridan always used his stern, yet loving guidance to help light the way. He didn't gloss over details, he used his own life and experiences to help his kids grow up in a world that was ever-changing. When Sheridan became a grandfather in the 1990's, he took the duty with as much pride as he did his military service. For his grandkids, he had full and unconditional love and support. He was devoted to his grandchildren and there was never a boring moment for them when their Pawpaw was around. He ran like a man half his age to keep them entertained. Playing basketball, wading in the creek, picking raspberries, and making up some of the scariest ghost stories you've ever heard. He even went on a few rollercoasters with them despite a deep fear of heights. He made life magical for his grandkids and encouraged their sense of adventure and curiosity any way that he knew how. Sheridan was active in his community from a very young age. When he made friends they were for life, and majority of his friends became like a second family over time and these friendships still carry on today. He was also a proud Christian and was a parishioner of the Mullens United Methodist Church. While Sheridan will forever be missed by his loved ones, we like to think that he's in a better place. Sporting his dark hair and sideburns, out in a big field with a huge Doo-Wop concert, classic cars all around, and of course the Radio City Rockettes. Services will be held at the Mullens United Methodist Church on Saturday, June the 4th at 11:00 A.M with Rev. Mark Shrader and Rev. Janet Wanner officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Friends may call one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
