Ruby E. Acord

December 26, 1923 - September 22, 2011

Ruby Edith Acord, 87, of Corinne passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley following a long illness. Born December 26, 1923 at Herndon, she was the daughter of the late Pat and Claudine (Doss) Patterson. Ruby was a homemaker, loving mother, had a strong will, strong belief in the Lord, and most recently had attended Pierpoint Freewill Baptist Church where she renewed her vow to the Lord. She loved canning, sewing, gardening, cooking for her family, and her dog April. She was raised in Herndon, was a graduate of Herndon High School, and was the last survivor of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Acord; a son, Wayne E. Acord; and five sisters, Mable Caulier, Lucille Workman, Pauline Graves, Thelma Crotty, and Ethel Blankenship. Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Carol Kennedy and her husband, Ot,t of Jumping Branch; three sons, Roger Acord and his wife, Laverne Acord, of Mullens, Roy Randall Acord of Jumping Branch, and Douglas Acord and his wife, Shirley, of Corinne; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Acord of Corinne; she will be sadly missed by her nineteen grandchildren, a granddaughter, Melissa Kennedy who lived with Mrs. Acord most of her life, ten great-grandchildren, and she was expecting her first great-great grandson in November. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Butch Acord, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton. Friends may call Monday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family wishes to express a special thanks to the first floor staff of McDowell Nursing and Rehab Center, Gary and to the Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.
