Reynold Connie Shrewsberry

July 4, 1945 - October 12, 2009

Reynold Connie "Big Sue" Shrewsberry, of Basin, passed away Monday, October 12, 2009 of a sudden illness at the age of 64. Born July 4, 1945, in Basin, he was the beloved 10th child of 11 children belonging to the late Lawrence and Gladys (Basham) Shrewsberry of Basin, W.V. Connie was a graduate of Herndon High School, where he played for the high school football team. He received an electrical certification from Wyoming County Vocational Center. Connie was an avid hunter, farmer, gun collector and outdoorsman. He was also a former coal miner and logger. Most importantly he was a devoted husband, a caring father, and idolized grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters; the late Nola L. Shrewsberry, and Eva Diane Shrewsberry. Reynold was survived by his wife, Violet (O'Neal) Shrewsberry and their four children; Gladys Jewell and husband, Ronnie, of Huntington, WV, Yvette Jackson and husband, Clint, of Kennesaw, GA, Jonathan Shrewsberry and wife, Tiffany, of Mullens, WV, and Jeremy Shrewsberry of Chester, SC. Connie is survived by one brother and seven sisters; Reynard Shrewsberry and his wife, Eva, of Paducah, KY, Alma Lusk and husband, Tollison Lusk, Jr., of Bud, WV, Imarie Zambranana of St. Louis, MO, Lela Fern Dame of Ghent, WV, Reva Shrewsberry of Ghent, WV, Zelma Greathouse of St. Louis, MO, Ferrel Goes and husband, Jim Goes, of Burbon, MO and Karen Marsh and husband, James Marsh, of Arlington, VA. Connie was also survived by nine grandchildren; Amanda, Alessa, and Alaina Jewell of Huntington WV, Michalea and Chloe Jackson of Kennesaw, GA, Christina and Maria Shrewsberry of Mullens WV, and Connor and Corey Shrewsberry of Chester, SC. Services will be held at the Tankersley Funeral Home on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Hugh McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in the Shrewsberry Family Cemetery, Barkers Creek. Friends may call from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2009 at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
