November 20, 1940 - November 1, 2011
Oliver Lee Bishop, 70, of Bud Mountain went to be with the Lord following an extended illness. Born November 20, 1940 on Bud Mt., he was the son of the late Opal Ruby and William Harrison Bishop. Oliver was a long time member of UMWA and he was a former coalminer electrician retiring from Kitchekan Fuel. Oliver was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Among his many loves were picking guitar with friends, hunting, fishing, the great outdoors, and spending time with his beloved brother, Wayne. Oliver's hobbies included sitting hours at a time in his "Toyota" whittling and watching mother nature. You would often see him sitting on Bobs Branch, Jug Hollow, and Bud watching squirrels and other "wildlife". Waiting for him in Heaven is his beloved parents, Ruby and Harrison Bishop and sister, Linda Mae Reed. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 45 years, Joyce; two daughters, Melissa Lee Wood and Randy Clay of Whitesville and Teresa Bishop of Bud; four grandchildren, Jessica and Roger Lee Clay of Pettry Bottom, Danielle "Nikki" Bishop and Calvin Bennett of Bud, Ryan Cody "Bones" Bishop of Bud, and Stephanie Dawn Wood of Whitesville; 3 great grandchildren, LeaShawn and Emilee Clay, Roger Lee "Bubby" Clay, and expecting the fourth great grandchild in January; two brothers, Monty and Loretta Bishop of Cleveland, OK and Wayne and Louise Bishop of Bud; eight sisters, Betty Mills of Basin, Lola McKinney of Amigo, Velma and Eugene Whitt of Basin, Dorothy and Jack Romine of Hominy, OK, Judy Lambert and Ben Goforth of Ferguson, NC, Nancy and Gordon Pendry of Sanford, NC, Mary and George Mullens of Crouch's Farm, Kathy and Danny Dunn of Beckley; host of nieces and nephews and had a special relationship with Jennifer and Tessie; two sister-in-laws, Glady and Mason Lester of Bud and Goldie and Harold Lester of Bud; extended family, Jaunita Hunter, Brianna Parker, and Caitlyn Foley of Garwood; special friends, Jimmy Lambert, Nathan Rowe, Paul Sizemore, Dick Green, Bill Burks, John Perdue, Randy Lester, Bob O'Neal, Claude Raye, Joe Colbird, Roger Moran, Sammy Shrewsbury, and Mr. Sandy. Oliver loved each of his grandchildren more like a father than a grandfather. A special mention to "Bones" as he was his only grandson and sidekick. Services will be Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Edward Beckner officiating. Burial will follow at The Old Home Place, Bud Mt. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
