Lucy Mae Hale

November 3, 1923 - September 21, 2011

Lucy Mae Hale, 87, of Itmann, WV went to be with her Lord on September 21, 2011 at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness. Lucy was born November 3, 1923 at Garwood, WV to the late Robert Levi and Maggie Taylor Epperson. Lucy was a homemaker, having raised 10 children. She worked as a waitress, switchboard operator, and was active in CB clubs in the area, last holding office in the Liberty CB club. She was well known for her wit and intelligence. She served her family and friends as a problem solver and confidant. She could most always find a solution to the situations presented to her by those she loved. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Fount W. Hale; a son, Robert Leslie; two grandsons, Stephen McKinney and Charles Ashley, Jr.; a great grandson, Stephen McKinney, II; a great-great grandson, Cameron Meade; a brother, Robert Epperson; and a sister, Cordie Aust. Survivors include two brothers, Rev. Ezra Epperson of Greensboro, NC and Tracy Epperson of Bluefield, WV; a daughter, Carol McKinney of Statesville, NC and her children, Dennis McKinney and David McKinney; a son, Peyton Hale of Pineville, WV and his children, Peyton Hale II, Consuela Hale, Yolanda Hale, Donelle Hale, Peyton Hale III; a daughter, Sylvia Sizemore and her husband, Calvin of White Oak, WV and her children, Kenneth Lester, Wayne Lester, Brian Laxton, Kandace Belcher and Kelli Jo Sizemore; a daughter, Anna Reeves of Gastonia, NC and her children, Lisa Silecchia and David Shrewsbury II; a daughter, Diana Stevenson and her husband, James of Mt. Airy, NC and her children, Ernest Stevenson, Jami Lynn Harris and Anthony Stevenson; a daughter, Rita Hale of Mullens, WV and her children, Keith Waycaster and Shane Smith; a son, Michael Hale and wife, Debbie of Beckley, WV and his children, Michael "Mikey" Hale and Brandy Hale; a daughter, Deborah Lane and husband Nelson of Herndon, WV and her children, Dr. Bradley Lane and Misty Lane; a daughter, Lucy Ashley and husband, Charles of Mullens, WV and her children, Marty Ashley and Max Ashley; and a daughter, Kathy Day and husband, Luther of Mullens, WV; 26 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren along with a number of nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to express their special appreciation to the staff of Raleigh General Hospital Step Down unit and the staff of Wyoming Continuous Care for the caring services they have provided. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens with Dalley Maynard and Rev. Larry England officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Faith, Beckley. Friends may call one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
