Layla J. Graham

Layla Joyce Graham, 65, of Basin, WV went to her mansion in heaven on August 27, 2013 after a long courageous battle with illness. Born June 4, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Lessie McKinney Lusk and Rev Paul Lusk. She was preceded in death by stepmother, Wilma Stover Lusk. Layla grew up in the coal camp of Bud, WV before her family moved to the small community of Milam's Creek. She was a faithful member of the Spruce Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and active in Children's Church. In 1976 she married the love of her life, Ray Graham. Together they raised 2 children and shared many memories of their home in Basin, WV. For the past 13 years she worked for the Wyoming County Board of Education. One of her greatest joys was working with the children. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 37 years, Ray, of the home. She is also survived by daughter, Becky Workman and husband, Larry of Westfield, NC; son, Jeffrey and wife, Wendy of Bolt, WV; father, Rev. Paul Lusk and wife, Ellen of Bud, WV; brothers, Lacy Lusk and wife, Delores of Beckley, WV; Rev. Lenuel Lusk and wife, Faye of Yadkinville, NC; and three beautiful grandchildren that always kept her laughing, Alisha, Angel and Brandon. Mommy was an angel on earth and now has her wings in heaven. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Spruce Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Gilbert Dodson, Rev. Grover Morris, and Danny Lusk officiating. Burial will follow in the Rube Howerton Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, August 30 from 6 to 8 PM at the Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens, WV and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would like Layla's memory to live on with donations to Herndon Consolidated Preschool, PO Box 309, Bud, WV 24716 (funds to be used for special needs of Preschool students), or SECU Family House, (Hospitality House), 1970 Baldwin Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. The Family of Layla Graham is being cared for by Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens.
