Iris A. Belcher

September 30, 1939 - April 5, 2017

Iris Ann Belcher, 77, of Bud, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley following a long illness. Born September 30, 1939 in Newburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Edna (Miller) Watkins Sheets. Iris was an office manager for State Farm, Mullens and was Baptist by Faith. In her leisure she loved to read, cook, watch TV, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Gene and Iris were married on her 21st birthday and were married for 56 years. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by one grandson, Austin Akers; mother and father-in-law, Lawrence and Lakie Belcher; brothers and sisters, Stephen Watkins, Jr., Reneita (Patty) Sapp, Robert (Bob) Watkins, Harry Watkins, Rosemary (Janie) Dixon, Darrell Sheets, Sally Williams, and Joe Sheets. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Eugene (Gene) Belcher; three daughters, Susan Akers and her husband, Shelby of True, WV, Jennifer Goodwin and her husband, Tracy of Owens Cross Roads, AL, and Karen Halsey and her husband, Shawn of Radford, VA; four grandchildren, Zachary Akers and his companion, Brandi Hall of True, WV, AnnMarie and Abigail Dunford of Owens Cross Roads, AL, and Gabriel Halsey of Radford, VA; two sisters, Sandra McDaniel of Tunnelton, WV and Carol Anders and her husband, Ed of Falling Waters, WV; three brothers, Neil (Tom) Sheets of Charles Town, WV, Michael Sheets of Newburg, WV, and David Sheets and his wife, Rose of Bealton, VA; brother-in-law, P.J. Williams of Virginia Beach, VA, and special sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Larry Cooper of Pineville; special nieces, Stephanie Smith and Kelly Jo Hanson; a host of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, David Lester. Services will be 12 Noon, Monday, April 10, 2017 at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens with Rev. Gilbert Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton. Friends may call one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to thank Dr. Christopher Parrish and all the staff at Princeton Community Hospital, Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, Summers Nursing and Rehab, and Bowers Hospice House for their compassionate care.
