Hester M. Mills

January 25, 1923 - July 1, 2012

Hester Marie McKinney Mills, 89, of Basin went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at the Wyoming Continuous Care Nursing Home in New Richmond following a long illness. Born January 25, 1923 at Basin, she was the daughter of the late Giles Kelly and Virgie Lou McKinney. She was a Homemaker, along with her husband she was co-owner and operator of Mill's Grocery, was a member of the Basin Freewill Baptist Church, and in her leisure she enjoyed sewing and gardening. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Edward Mills; four brothers, Shirley, Russell, Elmet, and Wilbur; and two sisters, Garnet Mills and Doris Shrewsbury. Those left to cherish her memory include two sisters, Halie Bonds of Stotesbury and Joyce Lynch of Beckley; her three sons, Eddie and his wife, Lynn, of Basin, Ronald and his wife, Susie, of Basin and Steven and his wife, Melina, of Mullens; three granddaughters, Kim Graham and her husband, Marty, Amy Mills and Amanda Mills; three grandsons, Jonathan Mills, Steven Mills, Jr. and his wife, Kim, and Joseph Mills; and four great- grandchildren. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Basin Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Hugh McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in Rube Howerton Cemetery, Basin Friends may call one hour prior to service Thursday at the Basin Freewill Baptist Church. Family members will serve as Pallbearers. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens.
