Harold Gosnell, 81, of Pemberton, died Thursday, June 10, 2010 at his residence following a long illness. Born September 10, 1928 at Lookout, he was the son of the late George Bert and Leatha Holcomb Gosnell. Mr. Gosnell was a former coal miner with 23 years of service and a member of UMWA. He was also a member of Coal City Masonic Lodge #156 AF & AM and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Coal City Freewill Baptist Church. In his leisure, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Gosnell; a grandson, Robert Nicholas Gosnell; two sisters, Carrie Gosnell and Myrtle Fortner; and three brothers, Arthur Wallen, Ed Gosnell, and Geter Gosnell. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carolyn Woolwine Gosnell; a daughter, Susie Tankersley and her husband, Emanuel, of Fredericksburg, VA; five sons, Harold M. Gosnell and his wife, Sherry, of Dameron, Richard Gosnell and his wife, Sherry, of Coal City, Gary Gosnell and his wife, Rita, of Crab Orchard, Robert Gosnell of Shelby, Alabama, and John Gosnell of Beckley; a step-daughter, Priscilla Daniels and her husband, Jimmy, of Pemberton; two step-sons, Ernest Watkins and his wife, Patty, of Coal City and James Watkins and his wife, Jennifer, of Crab Orchard; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a special life-long friend, Eddie Jones, of Coal City. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Community Baptist Church of Coal City, Whitby-Fireco Road, with Rev. Bill Reed and Ernest Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call from 12:00 Noon until time of services at the church. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family expresses their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
