Estel Lane, 73 of Lashmeet, WV gained his wings on Friday, October 1st, 2021 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem surrounded by family. He was born on September 25, 1948 at home in the small town of Tralee, WV to the late Amos and Mazie Lane. Estel entered the Army at the age of 16 where he served in the Vietnam War. He was a coal miner and electrician at US Steel for 26 years. While employed there, he was a member of the Fire Brigade and UMWA. He was known as “Booger” by his fellow miners. Estel enjoyed westerns, riding through the mountains, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family. He was always there to help family and friends, but his help came with a lecture. He was best known for his role of the family SANTA, boisterous “Jabba” laugh, joking personality, and compassion for others. Left to cherish his memories and carry on his legacy is his companion of 49 years, Phyllis Lane. Three daughters, April Hurley, Missy Lane, and Daphne Lane. Seven grandchildren: Brandon Bradford (Elizabeth), Josh McCormick, Lexi McCormick, Kandice Hatfield (Steven), Wyatt Lane Morgan, Madison Hurley, and Anakin Lane. Five great grandchildren: Eden Harper, JT McCormick, Anderson Hatfield, Kohen Bradford, and soon to be baby Hatfield. Seven siblings: Annie Hagy, Ruby Burrell, Shirley Coffman, Mart (Barbara) Lane, Joanne (Patton) Lester, Jerry Lane, and Debbie (Buddy) Tolliver. Brother-in-law Ronnie Lusk. Convoy of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, a sister Laura “DeeDee” Lusk, and three brother-in- laws: Roy Hagy, Paul Burrell, and Burl Coffman. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to honor him with contributions to the Disabled American Veterans Fund. (http://donate.dav.org) Memorial service will be 6:00 P.M. Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens. Military Honors Service at the Lane family home on Bud Mountain October 15th at 1pm.
