Dr. Culbreth Young Melton, of Mullens, WV, formerly of Franklin Springs, GA, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, following a short illness. Dr. Melton, or Cub, as family and friends affectionately called him, was born on January 30, 1928, in Danville, VA, to the late Bishop Thomas A. and Emma Elizabeth Young Melton. He graduated from Emmanuel College with an Associate of Arts degree and earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of North Carolina, and Doctor of Education degree from the University of Georgia. As a Pentecostal Holiness Church pastor's son, he had a great love for the church. He was a lay leader in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church and spent the majority of his career in service for the Lord on the campus of Emmanuel College, in Franklin Springs, GA. He was an instructor and registrar there for three years, before becoming dean in 1965. In 1970, he was inaugurated as Emmanuel's sixth President and faithfully served as such until his resignation in1983. He continued his career at Emmanuel as an instructor until January 2000, which completed his half-century in education. He faithfully taught Sunday School for 67 years. He last led a class at Mullens First Pentecostal Holiness Church until September, 2016 when his health no longer permitted. Dr. Melton was preceded in death by his parents, his precious wife, Lorraine (Wells) Melton, his brother Thomas Melton, Jr., and an infant sister. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Martha (Roach) Melton, Mullens, WV, formerly of Loganville, GA, grandchildren, Jonathan Melton, Loganville, GA, and Lori (Chris) Hursey, Social Circle, GA, great-grandchildren, a brother, Nichol Melton, Charlotte, NC, and nieces and nephews. Dr. Melton's Home-going Celebration will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Franklin Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church, Franklin Springs, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Emmanuel College, P.O.
