On Tuesday, January 24, 2012, Cecil Bruce Thompson, 82, of Corinne Bottom, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family following a long illness. Born March 24, 1929 at Bastian, VA, he was the son of the late Isaac "Ike" and Winnie Haga Thompson. Bruce was a former coal miner with 38 years of service retiring from Pea Body Coal Company, was a member of UMWA, a member of the American Legion Post 106, Mullens Moose Lodge, and The Mullens Masonic Lodge # 151 A.F. & A.M., and he frequently attended Sweet Home Baptist Church at Maben. Bruce was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country during World War II. In his leisure he enjoyed spending time at his camp at Mont Cove Lake. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nellie Frances Thompson; Bruce was the father of three children, Lisa R. Farley of Mullens, Delbert L. Thompson of Mullens, and Dennis R. Thompson and his wife, Karen, of Ozark, MO; four step-children, Randy McGuire of Beckley, Debbie Taylor and her husband, Larry, of Hurricane, Linda Whetzel and her husband, Dave, of Wyersk, VA, and Kenny McGuire and his wife, Kathy, of Lexington, SC; three grandchildren, Jessica Daniels and Bradley Farley of Mullens and Austin Thompson of Ozark, MO; one great-grandchild, Khloe Faith Daniels; step grandchildren include, Corey Douglas McGuire of Beckley, Kristia Bishop of Beckley, and Noah Taylor of Hurricane; one step-great-grandchild, Alyssa Daniels; two sisters, Nancy Anaya and her husband, Jess, of El Cajon, CA and Carol Turner of Bonita, CA; three brothers, Russell Thompson and his wife, Lorraine, of Woodbridge, VA, Charles (Bud) Thompson and his wife, Joann, of Mullens, and Jack Thompson and his wife, Phyllis, of Mont Cove Lake, WV. Services will be 12 Noon, Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Justin Farley and Pastor Larry England officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until time of services Friday at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice Of Southern West Virginia Inc., P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25801.
