Betty Jo Mullens King, 87, of Maben, went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, February 5, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Born January 3, 1922 on Rinehart Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Robert Rilly and Hattie Mae (Mullens) Mullins. Mrs. King was a homemaker, had been a resident of Maben for the last 23 years, was Baptist by faith, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Tom King; two brothers, Bobby and Marshall Mullens; two sisters, Ethel Bragg and Hariett Lee Ellis; two grandchildren, Christie Lynn King and David E. Akers; one great-granddaughter, Donna Kay Hodges; and three sons-in-law, Harold McKendree, Willard Blankenship, and Tommy Akers. Those left to cherish her memory include her ten children, Drema McKendree of Mullens, Tommie Jean Blankenship of Pierpoint, Forest and Patty King of McGraws, Robert and Carlie King of Herndon, Margaret and T. J. Boothe of McGraws, Jimmy and Janet King of Wyco, Brenda Woodson of McGraws, Tinkey King of the home, Glen King of Midway, Marie and Alvin Cook of Itmann; Lisa White and fiancé, Mike Montgomery, of McGraws, and a very special great-granddaughter, Kasey White, also of McGraws; twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; four brothers, Jack Mullens of South Carolina, Bill Mullens of New York, Howard Mullens and David Mullens of Mullens; a sister, Lou Whitt of Princeton; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 1:00pm Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Jerry McGrady officiating. Burial will follow in the Rinehart Cemetery on Rinehart Mtn., Mullens. Friends may call Saturday from 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Brandon Jessie, Jeff Clark, Preston King, Earl McKendree, Robert King, and Howard Mullens.
