Basil Ray Reed, Sr., 73, of Amigo, WV, went to the arms of Jesus, September 28th, 2017, surrounded by his family at the Hospice House of Southern West Virginia. Basil was born January 20th, 1944 in Amigo, WV to the late Sebird Joshua Reed and the late Mary May Reed. He attended Mark Twain High School and Beckley College. On December 6th, 1963 he married his beloved sweetheart, Virginia Margaret Lilly. He is her Bakey Ray and she is his Jenny Lou. Basil was in the Navy for 4 years, serving on the USS America and the USS Intrepid. He was a teacher's assistant, then worked for the Raleigh County Board of Education as a School Bus Driver for 28 years. He always farmed and raised cattle. He enjoyed playing guitar, banjo, and several other instruments; singing, telling his famous stories, writing poetry, painting and drawing, old cars (A Model Ford) , horseback riding, carpentry, and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He brought music, color, and heart into everything he did. Basil is preceded in death by his son Basil Ray Reed Jr. who passed away at the age of 3 and is now once again being held by his earthly daddy; Along with his parents he is also preceded in death by sisters Daisy Josephine, Thelma Jean, and Bertha Faye; brothers Arlie Preston, Charles Winifred Sr., Clyde Sebird, Lacy David, Clacy Daniel, and Byrl Van (Toby) Those left to cherish his memory and tell his stories are his beautiful bride Virginina Margaret Reed (Jenny); sister Helen Victoria Johnson of Amigo; son John Allen Reed and his wife Beverly of Beckley, WV; daughter Shelia Kaye Blevins and husband Denzil of Coal City, WV; daughter Linda Faye Dunbar and husband Marshall of Taylorsville, NC; daughter Emily Jean Reed of Taylorsville, NC; daughter, Nancy Helen Reed and Jeremy Halsey of Crab Orchard, WV; son Stoney Lee Reed of Amigo, WV; Grandchildren, Johnny Ray, Justin Allen, Cecelia Ann, Gabrielle Celeste, Hannah Marie, Celeste Adair, Cameron Alex, Angeleya Faye, Alexa Leigh, Cole Austin, Margaret Ann, Carter Reed, Caleb William, Zoe Grace, Simone Rae, Summer Jade, Taylor Alexis, Morgan Shae, Colin Taylor, Joshua Van, Landon David, Braxton Lee Gauge; Great grand-children, Maddox James, Mahayla Rose, Peyton Brooke,and at least one on the way; and multiple cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at Madeline FWB church in Amigo, WV, Sunday, October 1st. Rev Joseph Cadle will be officiating. Friends and Family, 11:00 am, Service at 12:00.
