Agnes G. "Aggie" Steele, of Townridge Acres, Mullens, went to be with her Lord and the love of her life, Sherman, on Monday, January 12, 2009 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, following a long illness. Born at Iaeger, Aggie was one of four children born to the late Arthur and Minnie Sites Gibson; she was also preceded in death by her adopted parents, who raised her, the late Brooks and Brookie Gibson Riffe. Aggie had been a resident of Mullens since 1967, a member of the Mullens United Methodist Church where she was an active member of Subgroup #2 of United Methodist Women and the Adult Sunday School class, was a former elementary Sunday School teacher, and was a former volunteer at the Itmann Food Bank and Mullens Elementary School. In her leisure, she enjoyed cooking and having family and friends to share her meals with. Aggie will be welcomed into Heaven's Gates by the love of her life, her husband, William Sherman Steele; a sister, Jeanette Riffe Carver; and two brothers, Staff Sgt. Herman T. Riffe, who was killed in the invasion of France during WWII, and William H. Gibson. Aggie was the devoted and loving mother and grandmother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, which include a daughter, Vickie England and her husband, Turk, and their family, April Quesenberry and her husband, Matt, and their children, Samuel Luke Quesenberry and Anna Victoria Quesenberry; and Steven Terry England and his wife, Alicia, and their children, William Terry England, Blake Harrison England, and Kyle Anthony England, all of Richlands, VA; a son, Donnie Steele, and his wife, Gloria, of Mullens and their sons, Cody Seth Steele, of Mullens, and Donnie Eric Steele and his sons, Donovan James Steele, Marcus Alexander Steele, and Tony Shane Steele, and his sons, Joshua Michael Steele and Christopher James Steele, all of Columbus, OH; and a son, Bill Steele, of Maben, and his daughter, Heather Houchens and her children, Fleshia Dawn Houchens and Zachery Chase Houchens, all of Cedar Bluff, VA. Those left to cherish her memory in addition to her family include her church family and also, special friends, Mildred England, Kim White, and Mary Ann Cook. We love you, Mother, Grandmother, and Aggie, and will never forget the love you've shown us throughout our lives. We will see you again one-day at Heaven's Gates, but until then, you'll be in our hearts. Services will 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Mullens United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church, 118 Guyandotte Avenue, Mullens, WV. Danny Farley, Danny Farley, Jr., Byron Farley, Seth Farley, Mitch Whitt, and Brad White will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mullens United Methodist Women and Men.
