Christine M. McKinney

On Monday, January 27, 2014, Christine Mary Hankins McKinney, 89, went to see her Lord and Savior at her home. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her. Born on October 2, 1924, Christine was the daughter of the late John and Verna Young Hankins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Horace R. McKinney, three sisters, Eloise Steele, Elnora Hutton, and Maxine O’Neal, and a brother, Roy Hankins.

Christine married the love of her life on April 22, 1943 and raised two children. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and spent her life taking care of her family. She was a life-long (82 years in attendance) member of Amigo Missionary Baptist Church. She adored her church family and enjoyed the fellowship she shared with them.

Christine worked as a waitress then manager of a restaurant while living in Florida. She worked four years in the health care field. She was secretary of the Stephenson Grade School PTA while her children attended there. She was also the president of the channel 10 CB club. She loved growing flower gardens and taking an evening stroll with her neighbor. Christine was awarded many blue ribbons for her delicious baking at the State Fair of WV. She loved to make homemade goodies, pies, and cakes from scratch. In her later years, she enjoyed talking on the phone to her best friend, Anne Hayworth.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Stephen R. McKinney and his wife, Cheryl, of Oak Hill; a daughter, Barbara Hardy and her husband, Kenneth, of Amigo; three granddaughters, Amy Schwarz and her husband, John Thomas, of Oak Hill; Stacy Cozort and her husband, Bryan, of Amigo; Beth Lusk and her husband, Ben, of Amigo; one grandson, Ryan Cook; four great-grandchildren, Christian Marie Gabrielle and Christine Mary Grace Cozort, of Amigo and Kaleigh Nicole Schwarz and Jacob Tyler Schwarz, of Oak Hill; as well as many other family and friends.

Services will be 12 noon, Friday, January 31, 2014 at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Curtis England and Rev. Gilbert Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
