Iris Earlene Walker Mills, 80, of Garwood, formerly of Covel, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012 at her residence, following a short illness.

Born September 24, 1931 at Vaughan, she was the daughter of the late William Okey and Minnie Jesse Morris Walker.

Mrs. Mills was a homemaker. At the end of the day when we pause to remember Iris, we shall remember her to being a loving and devoted mother to raising her children and as being a strong woman, which the world needs more of.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; a daughter, Janice Holstein; a brother, Eugene Walker; and a sister, Ana Mae Backus.

Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Jonalee Mills of Huntersville, NC; five sons, Dennis Mills and his wife, Karen, of Phelps, KY, Benny Mills of Itmann, Ricky Mills and his wife, Lisa, of Glen fork, Chester Mills of Garwood, and Okey Mills and his wife, Beth, of Athens; two sisters, Judy McKinney of Hickory, NC and Beulah Marie Holcomb and her husband, Jewel, of Clay Co.; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 12 Noon, Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens with a eulogy being offered by Dwayne Walker. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
